3) Bill & Monica end their affair

4) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

5) Monica is distraught, as any spurned woman would be at the end of an affair

6) by chance, complete and unpredicatble in the history of billions of years of the universe, a woman named Linda Tripp befriends the poor distraught Monica

7) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

8) by chance, complete, total, absolute, unpredicatable in the entire history of the universe... Linda has a tape recorder with her during these conversations with Monica

9) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

10) even though it is against the law to record conversations like this without the permission of both parties, Linda, ACCIDENTALLY, and completely by chance, just happens to turn the tape recorder on during these conversations - by chance she also has tapes in the recorder

11) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

12) by accident, pure chance, Linda Tripp finds herself at FBI headquarters and talking with a n anti-Clinton component of that sterling institution about the tapes she just happens to have in her possession

13) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

14) FBI agents take Monica to a hotel room and spend hours interrogating her about her former relationship with Bill

15) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

16) unbeknownst to Monica, it is illegal to lie to an FBI agent, at any time, whether or not you are under oath, in a court, or anywhere

17) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

18) they threatened to prosecute her (remember: this is after something 8 hours of interrogation in that hotel room without a lawyer present) if she didn't tell them everything right away

19) Meanwhile, back at the raunch... Newtie, Bobbie, Donnie, Hanky (and others) are involved in their current divorces and plans to marry their current mistresses

20) and then the story really took off - but you know the rest...

Fans of police work may recognize the above scenario as what is called a "sting".
